Party-time
August 30, 2008Hi again! – Wow! I’m that eager on writing my blog – don’t get used to it
The last 2 days were a lot of fun with partying the evenings and doing almost nothing during the days
We got to know 2 Austrian girls from the FH Joanneum, Natascha & Bernadette, where we go for our parties and meet with the Swedish, Australian & Swiss people, but of course also with the Canadians. They seem to be a bit loud
and like to drink alcohol mixed with caffeine pills, which seems a bit weird to me. Some pics will follow on the gallery
We also checked out Aberdeen mall, which is the biggest mall here in Kamloops. It mainly consists of clothes & sports shops, but there’s also a good book shop and 1 for CD’s. Stephi has turned out to be my saviour as she’s trying to teach me how to cook a little bit.
So far so good – cu then.

Orientation days at TRU
August 27, 2008Hi again.
Right now I’m sitting in my apartment at Hospitality Inn in Kamloops enjoying good old European beer tradition – thanks to Heineken
Today was a very short one at university for us, starting at 9 a.m. and finishing at 11 a.m. with an introduction to the so called “meal plan”, the ISAP (International Students Activity Program) and some talk about safety by 2 constables of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (no sorry, no pictures of Mounties in their red uniforms).
After that we went to the international admissions office to change our classes so that Friday would be off schedule again (they placed a seminar in statistics on Friday, so we want to get rid of the statistics crap we’re not interested in anyway). There is a good chance that this will work, as the wait-list for the substituting classes aren’t too long. Also “Cultural Issues in Tourism” and “Marketing & Customer Service” sounds much more interesting than “Introduction to Statistics”.
What comes next sounds unbelieveable (at least for me). We went to the bookstore to get the books for our classes. As we found our first book in the shelves, we almost could not believe our eyes. The Spanish book for the semester costs $ 172,15!!!! Now we know, why studying in the US or Canada is said to be really expensive. For heaven’s sake we do not need books for several classes (what a good choice!).
After that we went to our rooms to relax a little. At 4 p.m. we planned to go to the Aquatic centre to swim some lane, but unfortunately they are closed at the moment for overhaul works. So we went to the mall spending some bucks at the 1-$-shop and for a coffee to Starbucks.
So that was my day, hope you had fun too

First days in Kamloops
August 26, 2008Hi everybody at home!
Now this is the first entry from my room here in Kamloops, BC in Canada. It’s quite a nice apartment, as you can see on the photo below. We (my collegue Stephanie & I) have already managed the new situation somehow and for the moment are cooking together in my apartment as Stephanie’s room is a bit “under-equipped” and very small.
The flight on Sunday was also a little adventure. We took off from Munich airport on time at 7:10 am. We arrived at London Heathrow around half past 8 where we had to wait until 1 pm. to get onto our next flight. Already sitting in the airplane we had to wait another 3 hours in Heathrow, caused by a series of incidents.
First, the tailgate of the plane would not close followed by a damaged battery in the airplane’s air-conditioning system, which heated it up to almost 50 degrees. Because of the heat a kid sitting in the plane did need medical care – altogether that summed up for the 3 hours of delay. After starting from Heathrow the flight passed without big troubles, with both of us sleeping and watching movies all the time
Our schedule now of course was tight, because we had to catch the Greyhound bus to Kamloops in Vancouver – but we managed that as well. After a 4 and a half hours bus trip we arrived in Kamloops, BC where we organized a taxi to get us to our accomodation. We finally went to bed at around 1 am. on August, 25.
Next morning we showed up at university at 8 for our first orientation classes. At Thompson Rivers Universtiy (TRU) altogether 1,100 students are coming from abroad – that’s quite a number. 80 of them are exchange students like us, and almost half of them coming from germany – but we also met some Austrians already (from Wr. Neustadt & FH Joanneum Graz).
Yesterday we took a walk down to Thompson River and watched the sunset and then walked nearly all the way back up, as the buses in Kamloops are operating in quite irregular intervals – others would say, they operate at will
Today we got our student ID card and for the weekend we have planned to look around for a car to purchase.
So that’s it so far – I wish you all having a good time.

Last entry from Austria 08
August 23, 2008Hello everyone interested in my blog
This is the last entry in my blog, edited on my desk at home in Austria. Tonight I am going to Franz-Josef-Strauß airport in Munich where we (my collegue Stephanie Mitter) are leaving at 7:10 am on Sunday morning, heading for Canada.
We will have 1 stopover in London and then fly to Vancouver, carried by British Airways. Hopefully we will manage it to catch the Greyhound bus to Kamloops where we are supposed to arrive around midnight and start into our study abroad adventure the next day
I wish all of you a good time, whereever you are or whereever you go and be blessed by our lord, JESUS CHRIST.
c u then …
& feel free to comment.

thoughts about desperation
August 21, 2008we are living out our lives so bright
show some sort of unlimited might
never give in – it is our doom
don’t you see, desperation fills the room
we wake up, unlock our lips
all comes out just rips
defaming others all day long
watch ahead, desperation comes along
meeting those we think we love
you would like to live with yours
passing by, don’t seem to care
in the end it is desperation we share.

At the moment I’m enjoying my days at home and meet with friends all the time to make the best out of time until my departure to Canada on 24th August. I’ll miss all of you a lot and hope you do too
I also added another couple of pics in the gallery. Have a look!

Teenstreet 2008 – Outreach in Oldenburg
August 7, 2008Hi folks!
Today was outreach day at Teenstreet 2008. The teens went to the city centre of Oldenburg to get into contact with the inhabitants of the host city of Teenstreet 2008. They were very creative in the ways of getting in contact with the people. Some were dancing, others were placing questions with clear cardborads or drawing eyes and bible verses on the streets to attract attention. The sports link team also played football with the kids in the streets.
On the market place of Oldenburg the teens made a dance show, played theatre and worshipped GOD with a choir. There was also an art exhibition in the St. Lamberti church of Oldenburg.
All in all it was a successful and enjoyable afternoon in Oldenburg with the teens.

TS 2008 started yesterday …
August 3, 2008Hy folks!
Hope that thousands of you read my blog already
just joking … I’m grateful for every single click. First, 2 impressions of the site of Friday evening and yesterday, after all the teens had arrived.
Now Teenstreet 2008 has started, all of the 3,600 teens have arrived and celebrated GOD in the opening THRONE ROOM in the main hall. Great experience again, the band, Josh & Debs Walker started off the programme very well and introduced the teens to this years topic “BLINDSIGHT”. After the short introduction the throne room was mainly spent for worshipping our LORD, Jesus Christ.
Hope to give you some impression with these pictures. Find some more in the gallery of my website www.gergi084.com under “Gallery”
C u, hasta luego, recht herzlichen Dank für die Aufmerksamkeit

I will never change
August 2, 2008Waiting for tomorrow, thinking of yesterdays
Living was so easy, thought life could never change
Treating life too lightly, ignore some consequence
Running straight to you, crying for help again
Tell me why I am cocky
Don’t tell me who I am
Tell me why I am insensate
It’s all you just pretend
Please help me to rid it
Or I will never change
Walking along my pathway, righteousness left behind
Believing I am crux of matter, why am I so blind?
I am shades of grey, you are black and white
Imprisoning my soul, you love me despite
Tell me why I am wide-eyed
Don’t tell me you always knew
Tell me why I am desperate
It’s all I am going through
Help me slow down my pace
Or I will never change
But now I know that you weren’t right
But truth is not with me despite
The only one who ever knew
Is him, my Lord, I’m telling you.
